The Con on the Cob art
show is proud to exhibit a wide range of fantasy, science fiction, comic,
and genre artworks by a diverse multitude of artists. All artists, professionally
published or otherwise, are invited to join the fun. Additionally, the
art show hosts a variety of art-centered workshops, games, guests,
contests, and special events.
Artists who are not attending Con on the Cob are encouraged to particpate in our mail-in program.

This
is the largest venue in the Art Show. It is made of interconnected gridwall
panels for hanging framed or matted original artwork and prints, as
well as tables for the display of 3D art and sculpture. Each panel is
6’ tall and 2’ wide. Tables are 6’ x 2’ as well.
You may mix and match tables and panels. Art exhibited in the Artitorium
is sold by silent auction or quick sale.
Fee: Artitorium panels and tables are only $10 each. If you reserve three you'll automatically get a fourth one absolutey FREE. CotC does NOT collect a commission on sales.

The CotC Print Shop is the place to display and sell prints
and artistic reproductions by direct sale. Prices are set by the artists
and collectors can buy prints at any time during the show (instead of
waiting for the auction to close.
Fee: There is no charge to sell prints in the Print Shop, but CotC collects a 10% commission on sales.

The Artitorium, as an extension of The Mother of All Marketplaces, also provides a number of booths from which artists may display and sell their wares. Booths 31-39 are reserved for artists (see the map). As an added bonus, booths 35-39 include a 4'x8' pegboard backdrop. As exhibitors in the Artitorium, artists may either sell their art directly (without a commission being collected by CotC) or through the con (with a 10% commission on sales). Each artist booth includes two (2) CotC registration badges.
Fee: $80 (includes two registration badges ($80 value), so it's actually free if you look at it that way).
Here’s how the auction works: It’s
really very simple. Each piece of artwork is labeled with a bid sheet,
with the minimum bid set by the artist. Throughout the con people may
bid on the artwork by writing their name and a higher bid in the next
space on the sheet. Whoever has the highest bid by the end of the auction
(Saturday at 8:30pm) wins the piece. If nobody has bid on a piece it
may still be sold on Sunday at the Sunday Direct Sale price (also set
by the artist). Of course if you don’t want to sell your art,
just display it in the Artitorium, you can simply write NFS (Not For
Sale) on the bid sheet. See, I told you it was simple.

This is a section reserved for the artwork of unpublished and aspiring
artists and children. There is no fee associated with this space, although
you must have a CotC registration badge to display your art here. Artwork
in the contest may be posted for sale through CotC and our judges will be selecting their favorites and presenting awards. To enter your work in the Burgeoning Artists Competition please see Heather at the show.
Fee: No fee to display. CotC collects a 10% commission on sales.
Artists who, for whatever lame reason, can't make it to Con on the Cob, are invited to mail their art to the show and we'll hang it for you. Mail-in artists must complete and include the mail-in art forms and bid sheets and include return postage for any unsold artwork.
Deadline
Although we do not need
your actual artwork until October 1, 2010, it is recommended that you
mail your registration and payment as soon as possible to make sure
your space is reserved. We have a limited number of panels and they
are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Shipping
Please include funds for
return shipping with your artwork and forms.
Mail artwork, completed
forms, and payment to:

Art Show Registration Form

"Five years ago, a
man's fantasy became a reality in a form never seen before: Kitchen
Stadium, a giant cooking arena. The motivation for spending his fortune
to create Kitchen Stadium was to encounter new original cuisines which
could be called true artistic creations. To realize his dream, he secretly
started choosing the top chefs of various styles of cooking, and he
named his men the Iron Chefs: the invincible men of culinary skills.
Iron Chef Japanese is Masaharu Morimoto. Iron Chef French is Hiroyuki
Sakai. Iron Chef Chinese is Chen Kenichi. And Masahiko Kobe is Iron
Chef Italian. Kitchen Stadium is the arena where Iron Chefs await the
challenges of master chefs from around the world. Both the Iron Chef
and challenger have one hour to tackle the theme ingredient of the day.
Using all their senses, skill, creativity, they are to prepare artistic
dishes never tasted before. And if ever a challenger wins over the iron
chef, he or she will gain the people's ovation and fame forever. Every
battle, reputations are on the line in Kitchen Stadium, where master
chefs pit their artistic creations against each other. What inspiration
does today's challenger bring? And how will the Iron Chef fight back?
The heat will be on!"
-Iron
Chef
Um,
yeah...
We have something like that, except we
don't have a fortune with which to make our fantasy become reality.
Instead, our giant cooking arena is the Art Workshop Zone, our original
cuisine is artistic rather than culinary, our Iron Chef is the legendary
Larry Elmore, and challengers are artists rather than chefs. We do,
however, have a secret ingredient, skilled artists, a panel of judges
(the audience) and crazy hats. We even have a cool prize - the peoples' ovation and fame forever. If you think you
have what it takes to challenge Iron Artist Scotty Lees send
me an email to sign up. Space is extremely limited, so get your
wazoo moving.
Time: TBD
Place: The Artitorium

Oooooooh,
are you scaaaaaaaared? You should be, cuz this contest is ultra spooky.
See here's the gist. First we all get together and draw a monster, collaboratively,
on the white board. Each person adds a body part of some sort to our beastie
until the creature is ready for public display. That's when the real fun
starts.
Once the beast is complete it is put on
display for everyone to see. Throughout the con participants are invited
to create their own version of the monster, using the basic form we created
together.
You can use any sort of media you want,
from crayons to play dough to oil paint. The choice is yours. You don't
have to be an artist to enter, everyone is invited.
All of the
entries will be put on display for general perusal. The winner of the
contest will be decided by audience applause during the Award Ceremony
on Sunday afternoon. The prize - 10 raffle tickets for The
Mother of All Raffles, a hug from someone cool, and our perpetual
reverance.
Time: Begins Thursday at 5:00pm
Ends
Sunday at 2:00 pm
Place: The Artitorium

This
game has audience participation oozing out its wazoo. See, a group of
artists all grab drawing pads and sit at a table in front of the assembled
masses.
Said assembled masses then begin shouting
out topics and subject matter the artists are then compelled to draw in
a very limited amount of time.Whoever gets the most applause
It's a load of fun, so make sure you're
there. I don't want to have to come looking for you.
Time:TBD
Place: The Artitorium

SCULPTORS ASSEMBLE!!!!
Here's something fun. It's just like
quick draw, but for sculptors. Several play dough manipulators manipulate
play dough in the forms suggested by the assembled masses. Too much
fun for mortal minds, you say? Nonsense, it's just the requisite amount
of fun.
Time: TBD
Place: The Artitorium

Here's the deal: a whole bunch of great artists gather together and draw a whole bunch of awesome pictures, using markers, crayons, or whatever. The assembled masses buy raffle tickets and try to win their favorite drawings. Proceeds go to charity. Last year we raised over $550 for Heaven Can Wait.
Time: Sunday noon-2:00pm
Place: The Artitorium
