THAC0 Thursday? What the THAC is a THAC0 Thursday?
What an amazingly astute question, my young friend. If you know what it means then you know what it means. For those of you who don’t know what it means, THAC0 stands for “To Hit Armor Class 0” and was the standard way to determine if your attack was successful or not in old school Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. In celebration of our love of old school gaming and alliteration Thursday at Con on the Cob has been dubbed THAC0 Thursday. So say we all and whatnot.
Cool, I guess… How do we celebrate?
Although we encourage Con on the Cob attendees (Cobketeers? Coblins? Cobsters? etc…) to play whatever games they dang well please any day they dang well please, we especially encourage game masters to plop their old school games on the schedule in particular abundance on Thursday.
It’s a theme. Just roll with it.
Also, with new games hitting peeps’ noodles at an astounding rate it makes sense to introduce our friends to the games we grew up with. What with the bonds of camaraderie and nostalgia being things that are things and such.
Yeah, I’m on board. What games do you have in mind?
Basically anything made before the year 2000. We’re talking RPGs like Basic Dungeons and Dragons, 1st and 2nd Edition AD&D, Call of the Cthulhu, Traveller, Gurps, FUDGE, Tunnels & Trolls, and any other games you enjoy. Also, how about some old school board games? Axis and Allies, Talisman, Civilization, Merchant of Venus, Samurai Swords and their ilk, perhaps… Card games too! Miniatures! Whatever. I don’t care. Just have fun and revel in the nostalgic vapors of yesteryear.
Ok, I will. This sounds like it might quite possibly be the coolest thing to ever happen to anyone anywhere in the history of gaming!
I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or just kissing my buns. Either way, I like it!
